Experience an unforgettable 7-day adventure walking safari through the dramatic landscapes of Northern Tanzania, combining wildlife, culture, and breathtaking scenery. This unique safari takes you across the Ngorongoro Highlands, through traditional Maasai villages, and down to the remote beauty of Lake Natron, dominated by the sacred and active volcano Oldoinyo Lengai – the Mountain of God.
Designed for adventurous travelers, this walking safari offers one of the most spectacular hiking experiences in East Africa. Along the way, you will enjoy close interaction with the Maasai people, stunning crater views, volcanic landscapes, and serene natural springs.
You will be accompanied by experienced Maasai guides and armed rangers, ensuring both safety and authentic cultural engagement throughout the journey.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport – Transfer to Arusha
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our professional driver-guide and transferred to Arusha.
Overnight: Arumeru River Lodge
Meals: Dinner, Breakfast & Lunch
Drive Time: Approx. 1 hour (51.7 km)
Day 2: Arusha – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast, depart Arusha and enjoy a short stop at a local market. Continue across the Maasai Steppe, ascending the Great Rift Valley Escarpment with spectacular views. Lunch is served at the escarpment before continuing to the Ngorongoro Highlands.
Enjoy sunset views over the Ngorongoro Crater.
Overnight: Ngorongoro Lion’s Paw Tented Camp
Meals: Dinner, Breakfast & Lunch
Drive Time: Approx. 4 hours (190.5 km)
Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater – Empakaai Crater
Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a memorable game drive in one of the world’s richest wildlife ecosystems. After lunch, drive to Empakaai Crater.
Optional hike down into the crater to see the soda lake and flamingos.
Overnight: Empakaai Special Campsite
Meals: Dinner, Breakfast & Lunch
Activity: Walking safari with Maasai & armed ranger (Approx. 25 km)
Day 4: Empakaai Crater – Acacia Campsite
After sunrise, begin a scenic walking safari through rolling hills and Maasai villages. Your luggage is transported by donkeys. Lunch is enjoyed en route or at camp.
Optional sunset hike to a panoramic viewpoint.
Overnight: Acacia Special Campsite

Walking Distance: Approx. 18 km
Day 5: Acacia Campsite – Lake Natron
Choose between a shorter or more challenging hike along the Rift Valley wall, offering breathtaking views of Oldoinyo Lengai.
Arrive at Lake Natron and relax in natural pools at Ngare Sero.
Overnight: Lake Natron Special Campsite

Walking Distance: Approx. 20 km
Day 6: Lake Natron Exploration
Enjoy a full day of walking activities around Lake Natron, including waterfalls, gorges, and flamingo breeding areas. Activities can be tailored to your fitness level.
Overnight: Lake Natron Special Campsite
Meals: Dinner, Breakfast & Lunch
Activity: Full-day walking safari
Day 7: Lake Natron – Arusha / Kilimanjaro Airport
After breakfast, enjoy final activities before driving back to Arusha. Picnic lunch provided. Optional day room in Arusha before airport transfer.
Drive Time: Approx. 4 hours to Arusha + 1 hour to the airport
