7-Day Great Migration Safari – Witness Nature’s Greatest Show Overview
This 7-day safari is designed for travelers eager to witness the world-famous Great Migration, one of nature’s most awe-inspiring spectacles. From the rolling savannas of Serengeti to the stunning Ngorongoro Crater, this journey follows the path of millions of wildebeest and zebras as they cross predator-filled plains in search of fresh grazing. Alongside the migration, you will encounter Tanzania’s rich diversity of wildlife, scenic landscapes, and cultural experiences, making this safari both thrilling and unforgettable.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your safari guide and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a short city exploration or relax at your lodge. Dinner and overnight stay will be at your accommodation, setting the tone for the adventure ahead.
Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park, a beautiful sanctuary known for its giant baobab trees and vast herds of elephants. The Tarangire River attracts wildlife year-round, making this park an excellent spot to begin your safari adventure. Lions, giraffes, zebras, and over 400 bird species can be spotted here. Enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing with your game drive, then proceed to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park (Central Serengeti)
Today you head towards the world-renowned Serengeti. Drive through the picturesque Ngorongoro Highlands before reaching the endless plains of central Serengeti. Here, game drives introduce you to resident predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards, alongside elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes. Central Serengeti also serves as a migration corridor, ensuring wildlife sightings year-round. Dinner and overnight stay will be inside the Serengeti at your lodge or luxury tented camp.
Day 4 & 5: Northern Serengeti – The Great Migration
Over the next two days, venture further north to the Serengeti’s remote regions near the Mara River. This area is the heart of the Great Migration between July and October, where massive herds of wildebeest and zebras risk crossing crocodile-infested waters while predators lurk nearby. Witnessing this dramatic spectacle is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. During these days, enjoy full-day game drives or morning and afternoon sessions, ensuring you capture every thrilling moment. Return to your camp in the evenings for dinner and relaxation under the starry African skies.
Day 6: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, enjoy a final morning drive in the Serengeti before making your way to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the crater, a natural wonder and UNESCO World Heritage Site. With its unique ecosystem, the crater floor is home to lions, elephants, rhinos, hippos, and a stunning variety of birdlife. After your crater tour, ascend to the crater rim for dinner and overnight stay with spectacular views.
Day 7: Ngorongoro to Arusha – Departure
Following breakfast, you will drive back to Arusha, passing through beautiful landscapes and local villages. Depending on your flight schedule, you may enjoy a cultural visit or a leisurely lunch in town before being transferred to the airport for your onward journey.
