8 Days Climbing Kilimanjaro via Lemosho Route

8 Days Climbing Kilimanjaro via Lemosho Route Overview

The Lemosho Route is one of Kilimanjaro’s most beautiful and less crowded trails, offering panoramic views, rich wildlife, and excellent acclimatization. Over 8 days, you’ll trek through rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert, before conquering Uhuru Peak — Africa’s highest point.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Lemosho Glades to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport, transfer to Lemosho Gate, and begin trekking through lush rainforest. Enjoy sightings of monkeys and exotic birds before arriving at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp for dinner and overnight.
Climb gradually out of the forest into the moorland zone. Cross streams and ridges with stunning views before reaching Shira 1 Camp on the plateau for dinner and overnight.
Continue across the Shira Plateau, one of the most scenic areas of the trek. Gentle hiking allows acclimatization, with views of Kibo and Mount Meru, before arriving at Shira 2 Camp.
Ascend to Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps the body adjust to altitude. Overnight at Barranco Camp beneath the towering Barranco Wall.
Trek up the famous Barranco Wall with breathtaking views, then continue through valleys and ridges to Karanga Camp. This is a shorter day, designed to allow acclimatization before the summit push.
Continue upward to Barafu Camp, your base for the summit attempt. Rest, hydrate, and prepare for the midnight climb to the roof of Africa. Early dinner and overnight rest.
Begin the ascent at midnight to Stella Point, then Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate the achievement before descending back via Barafu to Mweka Camp for much-needed rest.
Complete the final descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport or onward destination.
