4 Days Mount Meru Climbing Overview
Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest peak at 4,562 meters, offers a less-crowded but equally spectacular trekking experience compared to Kilimanjaro. Over four days, trekkers ascend through lush rainforest, alpine meadows, and volcanic landscapes, culminating in panoramic summit views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding Serengeti plains.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Miriakamba Hut Trek
Depart Arusha early morning and drive to the Momella Gate. Begin trekking through rainforest trails filled with monkeys, birds, and waterfalls. Reach Miriakamba Hut in the afternoon for dinner and overnight stay while acclimatizing.
Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
Climb steadily through montane forest to the crater rim, enjoying scenic views of the surrounding valleys. Continue to Saddle Hut at higher elevation, passing volcanic ash fields. Evening spent resting and preparing for the summit attempt.
Day 3: Summit Day – Mount Meru & Descent to Miriakamba Hut
Start a pre-dawn climb to the summit (4,562m) to witness a breathtaking sunrise and panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Lake Duluti, and the Serengeti plains. Descend carefully back to Miriakamba Hut for overnight rest.
Day 4: Descent & Departure
Complete the final descent to Momella Gate. Transfer back to Arusha, marking the end of your Mount Meru adventure with memorable views and trekking achievements.
